Counselling

Life's challenges can sometimes feel overwhelming, leaving us feeling stuck, anxious, or struggling to cope. Whether you're dealing with current difficulties or past experiences that still impact you today, counselling offers a safe, confidential space to explore your feelings and find a way forward.

Initial Consultation

I offer a free initial consultation with no obligation to commit to further sessions. This gives us a chance to meet, either in person at my Fareham practice, online via Zoom or by telephone, and discuss what brings you to counselling. It's an opportunity for you to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and decide if you feel comfortable working with me. Taking that first step can feel daunting, but it's often the start of positive change.

My Approach

As an integrative counsellor, I draw upon different therapeutic approaches to provide support that's tailored specifically to you. Think of it like having a toolbox with various tools - we can use what works best for your unique situation and adapt our approach as your needs change.

At the heart of my practice is creating a warm, non-judgmental space where you can speak openly about whatever's troubling you. I combine elements of Person-Centred therapy, which focuses on your experiences and inner wisdom, Psychodynamic approaches that help understand how past experiences influence the present, and EMDR therapy for processing difficult memories and experiences.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful therapeutic approach that helps process difficult memories and reduce their emotional impact. It's particularly effective for trauma, anxiety, phobias, and other challenging experiences that feel stuck in your mind. Through gentle guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps your brain process these memories in a way that allows you to move forward. Many people find it helpful when traditional talking therapy alone hasn't been enough.

Counselling for Young People (12+)

Young people face unique challenges in today's world. Whether it's anxiety about school, friendship difficulties, family changes, or struggles with self-image, I provide a safe space where young people can express themselves freely. I understand that talking to a counsellor might feel scary at first, so I work at your pace, using approaches that help you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings.

Issues I Can Help With

Life throws many challenges our way - from anxiety, depression, and stress to relationship difficulties, trauma, and loss. You might be struggling with self-esteem, facing major life changes, or dealing with work-related pressures. Perhaps you're experiencing feelings you can't quite explain, or patterns of behaviour you'd like to understand better. Whatever brings you to counselling, I'm here to support you in exploring these challenges and finding ways to move forward.
